Joy filled all the worlds—everyone said the marriage of Rama had taken place. How can a single tongue describe the exhaustless flow of this great festivity? Then Janaka, receiving Vasishtha's command, prepared the wedding arrangements. He summoned the princesses Mandavi, Shrutakirti, and Urmila. The daughter of Kushakethu, the eldest, endowed with virtue, goodness, joy, and beauty—her he gave in marriage to Bharata with all rites and love. Janaki's younger sister, acknowledged as the crown-jewel of all beauties, he gave in marriage to Lakshmana with all due honor. And the one named Shrutakirti, bright-eyed, fair-faced, and a mine of all virtues—that princess the king gave to Shatrughna, radiant in beauty and virtue. Beholding the well-matched brides and grooms, all felt shy delight in their hearts. Everyone praised the beauty and the gods showered flowers. The beautiful brides with their handsome grooms all shone in the single pavilion, as if the four states of the soul, together with liberation, sat enthroned in the heart.
